You have just received your brand new toy and are eager to try it out. As are we all! But take a moment to read carefully through the manufactures literature for care and cleaning tips. Inspect the toy carefully for rough edges, cracks or any other flaws. Always clean your new friend before first use. I know this may sound a bit simplistic, but sometimes in our excitement to acquaint ourselves with this new technological wonder, it slips our mind.
For your safety, and the safety of your partner, it is important to clean your toys after every use. It is not a bad idea to cover your toys with a condom prior to use. They are useful for helping keep toys clean.
You have just had the most amazing play session with your 'accessories' and you have taken a little time to bask in the afterglow. Now it is time for the care and cleaning. The material your toy is made of will dictate the best way to accomplish this. Silicone - Someday perhaps most sex toys will be made of this material. It is safe to use and easy to clean. It retains body heat and transmits vibration well. Use a good quality anti-bacterial soap and warm water. Boil them in water for 6-8 minutes. Or they can be put in the top rack of your dishwasher. EXCEPTION: if your toy contains a vibrator, remove it first, if it cannot be removed stick to cleaning it with soap and water. Cyberskin - This material is somewhat delicate. Because it can be difficult to clean we recommend using a condom with any toy made from Cyberskin. Wash them gently using a good quality ant-bacterial soap and warm water. Be sure to air dry and dust lightly with cornstarch (no talcum powder!) to eliminate any stickiness. Glass - Glass toys must be washed with quality anti-bacterial soap and warm water. They are not a candidate for boiling in water or the dishwasher! They are too sensitive to temperature and are likely to crack or break. Pyrex - Products made of this material are not temperature sensitive like glass. This makes them a creative toy for play and also makes them easy to clean. They can be boiled or put in the dishwasher or can be washed with an anti-bacterial soap and warm water. Allow them to air dry or use a clean towel. Stainless Steel - These products are also not susceptible to damage from temperature and can therefore be treated the same way as toys made from Pyrex. Boil them in water or place them in the top rack of the dishwasher. Like all toys they also can be cleaned with anti-bacterial soap and warm water. Leather - A very difficult to clean material. It will never be 100% clean. It is porous and the stitching can provide places for bacteria to hide. Never soak leather in any cleaning solution. You can use a mild soap and warm water or a good quality saddle soap. Be sure to condition the leather afterwards with a leather conditioner. Because of the difficulty in cleaning it is recommended that leather toys are not to be shared, ever. Jelly-Rubber - Because this material is porous it cannot be totally disinfected. The best way to ensure these toys are kept clean is to always use them with a condom. It also addresses any ingredients that may not be body-friendly, such as phthalates. When they need washing, use a mild antibacterial soap and warm water. Again, because they are porous make sure they are rinsed well to remove any soapy residue. Let them air dry. Do not forget to put a little cornstarch on them to keep the surface non-sticky. Vibrators - Stick to cleaning these toys with antibacterial soap and warm water. Remove any batteries first. Take care to ensure you do not get any of the electronics wet as it may cause permanent damage. If the outside is made of rubber or jelly or cyberskin, lightly dust them with corn starch to eliminate any stickiness. There are commercially available toy cleaners such as Berman Center Intimate Accessories Anti-Bacterial Toy Cleaner or Before and After Anti-Bacterial Adult Toy Cleaner. They are convenient and some even contain a pleasant fragrance. Our recommendation is to keep a good quality anti-bacterial soap always at the ready and use it!
